There are two things that never stop. The first one is the rumour mill which functions non-stop and the second is none other than Xiaomi. Xiaomi churns out new devices almost every month. Currently, it is on a launching streak and has been announcing new launches regularly. This time it is the Xiaomi MI Pad 3 which was launched yesterday. But the launch was a silent affair and the Chinese electronics manufacturing giant has done it discreetly, which seems to be a new trend among Chinese smartphone makers. In the recent days, rumours about the specification of MI PAD 3 have had their fair share and now it is the time for real specifications to come out.
Xiaomi MI Pad 3 appears to be a much-needed upgrade to its predecessor MI Pad 2 which suffered from certain setbacks although it was a very good tablet when it was launched in the year 2015. For example, MI Pad 2 had no OS updates and suffered from a poor front camera. Now, everything is going to be fine. The newly launched Pad 3 sports a 7.9-inch display with a pixel density of up to 326 PPI. The screen resolution is 2048 x 1536 which is quite impressive. At the back, the back panel is made of a metal alloy which is provided with a sandblasting treatment which gives it a texture that looks good while improving the grip.
Perhaps, the most important change in MI Pad 3 over its sibling is its processor. Xiaomi has replaced the Intel Z8500 in MI Pad 2 with a more potent hexa-core MTK8176, 2.1 GHz processor supported by a 4GB RAM and a 64GB internal memory. The memory itself is a significant improvement as Pad 2 had only a 2 GB RAM. That means gamers can take a relaxed breath as the speed as well as the memory is quite good.
Another woe in Pad 2, the camera, is also rectified with a 13 MP primary shooter and a 5 MP secondary shooter. The huge 6600 Li-Pol non-removable battery can be a boon to continuous users and it comes with 5V/2A fast charging. And good news for windows haters, MI Pad 3 is ditching Windows OS for MIUI 8.
All other general features like WiFi 802.11 dual band antenna, WiFi direct, hotspot, Bluetooth V4.1 are also available in the tablet. The only downside is that it does not support network connectivity and as such does not have slot for Sim card.
That being said, it is a pretty good tablet for its price which is around $249. If you own a MI Pad 2 and looking to upgrade your tablet or if you are searching for a new one, Xiaomi MI Pad 3 is a very good choice.
