Technology has firmly root itself in our lives, from the moment we wake up in the morning to the last thing we do before we sleep. Gone are the days when we used to see James Bond and star trek movies and were fascinated by their gadgets. Technology has made the most powerful computers to fit in your palm. Mobile phones are not just limited to calling anymore; it has become our complete entertainment and lifestyle device. It can be difficult to predict the future with regard to technology but one thing that can be seen clearly is mobile technology is the next frontier for technology.
It’s already 21st century and there are number of smartphones companies like most rated Samsung and Apple. The biggest and the most obvious trend right now is the effort to eliminate the bezel, or frame that surrounds the display of the phone to give it a futuristic look. It not only increases the screen size without increasing the phone size but also there’s nothing else to distract you from what’s being displayed on the screen. Moreover, a company from China, named Xiaomi begin this trend with there concept phone MI MIX that was launched in 2016. This year Xiaomi launched its successor, Mi Mix 2, to compete with the Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Note 8, which were ruling over the market until date.
A successor to a remarkable concept
The Mi Mix was the first phone to come out with almost negligible bezels with screen stretched to very corners of the phone. Now with Mi Mix 2 , Xiaomi rectified the issues with the predecessor and drop the concept tag. The standout feature is still the edge-to-edge display but smaller is size than the original, which makes it more approachable. The 5.99-inch display is itself bright and vibrant with wide color range and 2,160 x 1,080 pixels of resolution. The border below the screen is larger, as it houses the 5MP front camera and other electronics necessary to power up the device. Xiaomi has ditched the fancy yet mediocre piezoelectric speaker from the Mi Mix thus creating a tiny slit for the earpiece on the top. To reduce the top bezel Xiaomi replaced the standard proximity sensor with the ultrasonic system to turn off the screen when you hold the device up to your ear for a call.
Mi Mix 2 being the flagship phone of Xiaomi, The display isn’t the only high-end feature on it. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, and either 64 , 128 or 256 GB of storage. The 3,400 mAh battery makes the device last all day without much issue. This snappy performing device has 6 GB of RAM but if you want more power, a Special Edition of the phone, which offers 8 GB of RAM, is also available. The Primary camera is a 12-megapixel camera, which comes with an optically stabilized f/2.0 lens and has large pixels so it can take good photos even in the low light conditions. Alike Apple, Xiaomi , also known as Apple of China, ditched the headphone jack.
How much will it cost you?
Even though Mi Mix 2 lacks some feature provided by the tech giants, such as water resistance, wireless charging and dual-camera set-up rather than single lens camera, It can keep the pace with those companies as it does not dig a hole in your pocket with those unrealistic prices. Xiaomi is pricing the Mi Mix 2 from 3299 yuan (about $500) for the model with 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. The 128GB version costs 3599 yuan ($550), meanwhile, and the 256GB model will be 3999 yuan ($610); the unibody ceramic special edition with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at 4699 yuan ($720).
A cohesive software interfaces
Xiaomi’s software is cohesive, as well. The Mi Mix 2 comes with 9th version of MIUI, which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but doesn’t looks anything like the stock OS. It’s best described as a rendition of iOS, made to fit the Android platform. MIUI 9 is fast, stable and have many useful features, but it almost feels a complete different platform with all the features of other android phones.
Shall I buy one?
Xiaomi has come a long way in a past few years, if the company promises to deliver such innovative products, it won’t be far from becoming the number one phone manufacturer around the world. It is going on the path of Apple, innovating the technology of today. Be it the smartphones, laptops or home automation, Xiaomi has made its way in our houses. With MI Mix 2, Xiaomi has done it again, brought high end feature packed phone in a reasonable price range, it’s a steal deal. Go for it!
