Being a college student is probably one of the most challenging periods of life, considering all the social and other changes. While you may be fully prepared to take on college life and those classes, the intensity of modern life is often overwhelming. That is why I advise you to use all of the beautiful solutions that are offered by the digital age – I am providing my list of 15 most useful apps for college students.
Probably one of the most important entries in my list, I put it in the beginning. The purpose of this application is rather simple – it checks your texts for grammar and stylistic errors. Trust me – being a college student means writing lots and lots of essays, reflections, and researches. So, you will get tired and even if you consider that you wrote a perfect paper, just check it in Grammarly. Most likely, you will be surprised. The app gives advice, highlights mistakes, and is customizable! You may find the best resume companies out there for your CV or resume, but I would still suggest running those through Grammarly.
Quite a find, I must state. College used to be considered that large sitting place, where you spend hours while writing down the words of a professor. However, that is in the past, at least partially. The emergence of new technologies gives opportunities to optimize the note-taking process and Soundnote is a solution. Basically, it lets you record audio, make notes, and even synchronize those. I would say that this is quite a functionality for one app.
Adobe Fill & Sign
Adobe has been holding their hand on the pulse of pdf files for a really long time, we all know the products of this company. However, I don’t know about you, but I always struggled when it came to filling pdf files as they usually mess up after closing. Nonetheless, this one is easy to use and allows you to fill even those non-writable pdf files with a stylus or hand via a phone or tablet. I would say that this is quite comfortable.
A very helpful tool for any student. It doesn’t really matter if you study psychology, gender studies, or computer sciences, you will have to deal with research work. When it comes to the university setting, citing the sources you use is mandatory, as it helps to recognize your personal ideas from the ones borrowed from others. So, BibMe is a citation generator that covers all of the commonly used citing styles and is a must-have tool.
A rather simple app, but quite useful. As it happens, lots of students are quite lazy and procrastinators in nature. I know, I am myself. That is why I decided to include this small tool for one simple reason – motivation and fear! Having a detailed counter that shows how many months, weeks, days, and minutes till your exam session is quite a motivator. So, when deciding whether to study before exams or go out, take a peek at the timer, you may be shocked.
While being an application exclusive to Apple products, it is of the highest importance. During your stay in university, there is often a need to run and make a copy of some document across the campus, or to make some notes, or to copy someone’s notes! That is where this application comes into play. It basically turns your iPhone or iPad into a portable scanner! Quite comfortable and highly functional, I would say so myself.
I wonder where this stuff was when I was in university. Wolfram Alpha is a dream come true for those who had to deal with algebra and other STEM subjects during their time in college. It is a wonder as it fulfills an idea of typing something and getting an answer! The application has algebra, calculus, linear algebra, discrete math, and so much more. So, it is a must-have app for any student that deals with math or science.
While being a meme of itself during a time, this application is a perfect tool for those who study abroad or those who want to add a new language to their repertoire. Duolingo is basically a learning tool that provides you with an opportunity to learn the language in a fun way through addicting mini-games. I have to state that the gamification of the learning process is one of the most effective ways to engage people, and that is what Duolingo does. Also, it informs you about itself through notifications, so you won’t forget that one.
Accelastudy Vocabulary Builder
Yet another app for people who study abroad or English is not their first language. Simply saying, it is an application that helps a student learn new words. Sounds strange, but it’s not. After all, there are more than 150,000 words in the English language, but statistics say that an average native English speaker knows only a quarter of this number. So, expanding your vocabulary can become quite easy and fun with all the flashcards and other stuff. Anyway, it is an awesome tool for a student and will help out even after college.
Sounds similar to one big Silicone Valley company, but it’s not. More of a utility tool, it allows a student to create useful, mindful, and clear mindmaps. It is a perfect app for those who want to keep track of what has to be done, and a useful tool for group projects.
Yet another important app, especially for a student. Basically, it is a personal bookkeeper that helps in managing your bills, spendings, and serves as a balance sheet. So, it is a budget application designed for with an individual user in mind, and money is quite important for any student. After all, sometimes it is required to skip a party in favor of basic food, and Mint will remind you of that.
Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock
This one is crucial. Considering the lifestyle of college students with all the classes, stress, and homework, the Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock is important. The application creates a sleeping schedule that is customized personally for you. It is not a pill to cure diseases, but it tells when you are most productive.
As the name suggests, it is a to-do list application. While there are lots of those, Todoist has a cross-platform function and allows you to synchronize all of your devices. Classes, family events, everything can be fit there in a convenient way.
While sounding a little shady, this is basically an application that holds a database of cheat sheets for any occasion. It includes academics, hobbies, business, cooking, and other stuff. So make smart use of it!
Who doesn’t like music? Everybody does, especially students. It is a well-known fact that music is beneficial for our brain, and lots of college students study with some music in their ear. So, this app is an AI-powered thing that provides you with music designed specifically for focusing, sleeping, studying, and other stuff.
