The big news is confirmed to be true indeed! Nokia, the legendary brand, has planned to make an official and stupendous comeback with the 2017 agenda, “Nokia brand’s return to smartphones.” There have been rumors and many tweaks about the launch of new Android smartphones by Nokia. Although there has been quite a commotion on this incredibly surprising news, it has been confirmed into the CES 2017 by Nokia that very soon they are going to launch the first Android smartphone.
The company has come up with a Big Plan, into the future. The plan includes how they will move forward from 2016 to 2018, achieving all their goals. Some of the plans include Digital Health brand transition, Patent licensing expansion in the mobile, automotive and consumer electronics, expanded VR leadership and much more.
Nokia is giving up on the Microsoft OS with which it had joined hands earlier. It is now moving over to the upcoming Android OS which has the astoundingly largest market share and has become the face of the smartphone industry.
Nokia doesn’t have the manufacturing capabilities it had earlier, so the nook and crannies of the production department are to be handled by HMD Global, a new startup, and Nokia is going to play along. Nokia will just act as a bystander to the Finnish company and will help in branding the product. The company will receive royalty payments from HMD for the sale of the devices for next 10 years which includes the name and intellectual property rights.
The next question arises, HMD, who? This is how HMD describes itself in its official marketing stuff: “Nokia is known around the world for its history of innovation, including in mobile phones. As the new home of Nokia phones, HMD will write the next chapter for these products. HMD plans for its future Nokia branded smartphones and tablets to run on the Android operating system, uniting one of the world’s iconic mobile brands with the leading mobile software and app development community.”
HMD will be helped by the Foxconn’s R&D and manufacturing. HMD confirmed that these smartphones would have all the attributes and qualities of the Nokia brand, i.e., design, reliability and robustness and thus signed a 10-year contract with the famous brand.
